Week IV

The first assignment was due on Monday. As I mentioned all the time on my previous blogs, I and my group partners used TA's general office hours! They were so helpful as we expected. Overall, the assignment was quite difficult, especially the second question - the repeating cycle of lunch menus. The question asked to design and proposed a technique for the cycle. This was one of hardest parts to figure out. Perhaps this was the one which took me longest time. So, What I did is that, in order to show my technique to prove, I wrote an example. I think it is wrong because the technique should be inside of my induction step. But I could not think of any other way to show that. The last question looked very difficult either. Even though there was hint given, it was not enough to understand the concept. but I eventually found out that the only thing was that we were supposed to assume phi is r rational. After finishing part (a), since part(b) was very related to the problem (a), the proof was smoothly and clearly proceeded.

We eventually finished the assignment but we realized submitted it at very last min. So, we will start earlier for next assignment and will not leave it until the last minute.

This week lecture was about 'Recursive Definition'. I remember that I have done this type of topic last year in CSC165 using python code. Haven't we? Did we just prove loops? Oh well, it does not really matter. The lecture is all about unwinding function and finding out its cloded-form. I quite had hard time to understand it at the first time. So, this is my plan for this week as well as next week: Read the textbook.
